Claudio’s career in translation and subtitling began in 1974. His father, Adone Fragano (1923–2014), was an important film producer and distributor whose keen knowledge of the industry and passion for moviemaking ended up captivating his son, as well as his daughter Marina, who would eventually become a translator as well. Adone ordered a moviola and hired someone to teach them how to operate it. This became their first paid job.
Among Claudio’s most relevant translation and subtitling work is Million Dollar Baby, by Clint Eastwood, winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Picture. In addition to English-language films, Claudio has also translated many features in Italian, the dominant language in his home.
After graduating from FGV with a degree in Business Administration, Claudio eventually moved on from translating to working in his own field. During this period, he also produced and imported films alongside his father. In 1991, he decided to go back to the Moviola and to translations. The artisan-like nature of the profession fascinated Ligia, who had started taking on some duties at her dad’s office in her mid-teens and eventually became a full-fledged staff member.
When the movie industry started going digital, his daughter/business partner took up the reins of the company, established in 2005 and refounded as Little Brown Mouse in 2014. Claudio chose to manage the corporate and financial side of things, which he does mostly from his home in Londrina (Paraná), where he moved after his eldest daughter Camilla had a baby girl, named Olívia, in 2016.
