Amig@s, recentemente em conversa no escritório, que mais parecia conversa de bar, eu e o sócio-pai corriqueiramente reclamávamos do quanto é difícil trabalhar com legendagem (adoro!). Além daquelas condições de trabalho adversas conhecidas por todos os tradutores, como os prazos apertados, maus pagadores, contextos de tradução bizarros, sinal da NET caindo toda hora and so on and so forth, no nosso ramo de tradução de diálogos enfrentamos também dificuldades específicas.
Quando se está trabalhando com filmes para cinema, muito frequentemente temos que assistir aos filmes inacabados. Sim, versões dos filmes que ainda não tem o corte final, muitas vezes não incluem diálogos que temos que traduzir e trazem diálogos que não temos que traduzir. Quando se trata de um filme sci-fi, às vezes os efeitos ainda não foram finalizados e nós temos que assistir a todo tipo de bizarrices. Foi o caso do Planeta dos Macacos, a Origem. Ficamos vendo o Andy Sarkis e o resto dos “macacos” andando envergados com aqueles equipamentos nada atraentes. Devo dizer, tira um pouco do barato!
Outra coisa com a qual temos que lidar ocasionalmente é com padrões impostos por festivais. Fazemos a tradução e marcação de vídeo para filmes brasileiros que serão exibidos em festivais lá fora, e às vezes eles voltam para nós porque estão muito falados (too wordy?). Assim, vamos editando até chegar aos padrões desejados, mas isso às vezes implica cortes muito grandes e escolhas que não cabem somente a nós. Assim, não raro temos que trabalhar junto ao diretor do filme para selecionar diálogos. Foi o que aconteceu ano passado com o filme “Entre Nós”, do diretor Paulo Morelli.
E mais uma coisinha que podemos mencionar, já que estamos falando em diretor@s, é o trabalho persuasivo que vez ou outra nos cabe fazer. Diretor@s são os pais/mães de suas obras e, na maioria das vezes, assumem um papel ativo na elaboração das legendas. Mas, às vezes, eles também exageram. O sócio-pai nos escreveu um depoimento com exclusividade para ilustrar uma tal situação:
“Ainda no tópico das dificuldades de se encontrar termos que agradem diretores, produtores, exibidores, etc, lembro de um trabalho que fizemos há quase 8 anos, que consistia no levantamento e transcrição do roteiro de um filme argentino, realizado por um conhecido cineasta argentino radicado no Brasil, assim como a tradução para o português, a versão para o inglês e as respectivas pietagens. Dentre tantas discussões quanto à tradução de termos de que me recordo, vale destacar duas que ilustram bem o problema. A primeira era a tradução da palavra “adianto” em castelhano, que ele insistia em traduzir ao pé da letra, para que a frase em português ficasse: “isso já é um adianto.”, quando a tradução correta seria: “Isso já é um avanço.”, que é o que foi mantido. Mas o mais complicado foi quando ele contestou a minha tradução de “tesuda” para o termo “conchuda” em castelhano, insistindo que a tradução deveria ser “bocetuda”. Claramente, além de ser um termo de todo inapropriado, com certeza não seria aprovado pela distribuidora, uma conhecida major. E foi o que aconteceu, gerando aí entreveros entre o realizador e distribuidor até que as coisas se acertassem, prevalecendo naturalmente o distribuidor. Ainda recebi o telefonema de uma representante da distribuidora que, conhecedora do meu trabalho, quis se certificar de que certos termos não tinham saído da minha cabeça. Um belo mico!”
É, sócio-pai, não é fácil! Mas a gente gosta de um desafio 😉
